Eight months pregnant woman gets tasered by cops after she calls them for assistance in car park fender bender incident It started as a minor altercation over alleged damage to a car, but this incident in a Best Buy parking lot quickly escalated and ended with two people -- including a pregnant woman -- getting stunned with a Taser by police. According to an arrest report filed by Springfield, Ill., police, Lucinda White, who is eight months pregnant, called police after getting into a fender-bender in the parking lot on March 30. The driver of the other vehicle was questioned by police, and White's boyfriend, Frederic Thomas, became upset after he denied there was damage. In the police report, which was posted by the website Springfieldleaks.com, it stated that Thomas began yelling and cursing at the driver. The officer, R.T. Kuhn, wrote that he told Thomas to calm down or he would be arrested, but Thomas persisted and then resisted arrest, "swinging his arms and hands wildly" at the officer's "head and upper body." A struggle between Kuhn and Thomas ensued, and the officer called for back up. In a cell phone video of the incident posted to YouTube March 31, White can be seen in close proximity to officer Kuhn and Thomas as they struggle between parked cars. One officer, identified as "Higginson" in Kuhn's report, runs up and uses a Taser on Thomas. White protests verbally and then resists as Higginson tries to arrest her. He then appears to deploy a Taser on the woman. YouTube commenters were outraged, as were some eyewitnesses in the video. "I find it infuriating that the police used a taser on a pregnant woman; especially when she was the one that called the cops for help when her vehicle was hit by someone else," wrote Reddit user MrMagPi, who posted the video of the incident to the social news site Wednesday. But Springfield police are standing by the officers' actions. "The video actually mirrored the reports that they turned in before we even knew about the video... They [the officers] followed policy." Cliff Buscher, deputy chief for the Springfield police, told WICS. Buscher added that an internal investigation is still pending. Thomas and White were arrested and charged with resisting arrest. This isn't the first time police have used a Taser on a pregnant woman. In 2004, three Seattle police officers used a Taser on a pregnant woman, Malaika Brooks, after she refused to sign a speeding ticket. Courts ruled that the officers were justified in making the arrest in that case, and the woman was convicted of one criminal charge. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the officers in the Brooks case could not be sued for using excessive force for deploying the Taser, because laws surrounding the use of stun guns were unclear at the time. In 2012, the officers tried to bring the case before the Supreme Court in an effort to have their actions justified, but the court refused to hear it. Federal law enforcement authorities on Wednesday charged 37 individuals in connection with an international drug-trafficking ring led by ethnic Albanians, whose operations are said to have netted more than $500 million during an 11-year run across three continents. The majority of the accused syndicate members were arrested early Wednesday in New York, New Jersey, Colorado and Florida, according to law enforcement officials. Several others were arrested earlier this month in connection with a drug-related shooting, and others are already in prison on related offenses. One of the accused ringleaders, Arif Kurti, was previously arrested in Albania on heroin trafficking charges. The U.S. is requesting his extradition. According to court documents, the accused individuals are members of several interrelated Albanian family clans, known as fis. Staine was training for a half-marathon in Duluth, Minnesota when she began to experience tightness in her back on Sunday. She thought it was just random back stiffness after running nine miles, but it was probably the baby inside her trying to get out. The pain persisted and worsened Monday—probably because the baby was still there—to the point where she had to go to the emergency room. Upon her arrival, docs told her they found a fetal heartbeat (because of the baby inside her) and that's when she realized she was pregnant. They took Staine to labor and delivery and five minutes later she was holding a healthy 6-pound-6-ounce baby girl. When we asked her if she had any symptoms of being pregnant, she said no! "I didn't gain any weight. I had my period. I had no idea."

It seems impossible to believe, but CCTV footage has emerged which appears to show a woman giving birth as she walks down the street. The teenager is seen moving awkwardly along a darkened pavement with her parents on either side when the baby girl tumbles on to the floor. The three show little reaction as they stare briefly at the newborn before walking away. Before long, the infant is spotted by passersby who gather round apparently unable to believe that a baby has been abandoned on the street. One witness can be seen calling emergency services and police and an ambulance are soon on the scene. Despite the traumatic circumstances, the baby survived and was later named Ecem Ahu by hospital staff. There has been fierce debate in the Turkish media and online about whether the woman actually did give birth as she walked down the street.According to Hurriyet Daily News, the teenager is said to have told police that she did deliver her baby in the street. During questioning, she reportedly said: 'Something fell from me. I thought it was a blood clot. I didn't know it was the baby.' Her parents also allegedly said they did not know their daughter was pregnant. But hospital staff said the newborn was found with her umbilical cord tied up, which suggested it had been born earlier. Police also claimed that the lack of reaction by the mother and her parents in the video suggests the presence of the baby was not a shock. It is not clear whether any action has been taken against any of the parties involved. The incident is said to have happened in Bağcılar, a working-class suburban district of Istanbul, mostly populated with poor, struggling families.

Russian police have uncovered an underground city hidden beneath a Moscow market. The series of subterranean rooms housed over 200 illegal migrants from Asia. The city contained a factory complete with sewing machines and tables where the illegal migrants were kept to sew clothes. The underground complex was also equipped with a market, cafe, cinema and casino. It is not the first time Moscow's Federal Migration Service have discovered a clandestine factory in 2011 a similar settlement was found in an abandoned Soviet-era bomb shelter.

This extraordinary CCTV footage was captured from a Metro track in St Petersburg, Russia. It shows passenger Yevgeny Borodin arguing with a female worker, which, at first, appears under control. But nobody could have predicted what happened next. As the argument escalates, Mr Borodin suddenly pushes the woman onto the live tracks. She can be seen falling slowly back onto the rail lines - just seconds before a train was due to arrive at the platform. The shocking incident clearly infuriates another passenger - as he lands an enormous punch onto Mr Borodin's face. The passenger who attacked Mr Borodin then goes back to the track to help the woman, who manages to clamber herself up with the help of the man. After checking that she is not injured, the passenger, who is clearly still furious, decides to chase after Mr Borodin who attempted to escape. Thankfully, Mr Borodin was caught and is now facing jail.

An off-duty scientist thought he'd lend a helping hand when an alligator was spotted along Highway 70 in North Carolina. But Fred Boyce bit off more than he could chew; as he approached the beast, the alligator viciously attacked him, nearly ripping off his arm. Mr Boyce was rushed to the hospital to be treated and officials from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission were able wrangle the beast and return him to the wild.

A sandwich has been thrown at Prime Minster Julia Gillard during a school visit in Queensland this morning. The PM was stopping into Marsden High school near Logan in South-east Queensland, when she was mobbed by students. Teachers were reportedly trying to gain control over the unruly crowd, as some kids began yelling abuse at the PM. One student on a footpath yelled 'loser' at the PM, while the mob 'went crazy' according to News Ltd. It was at this point a sandwich was reportedly hurled at the PM. Local P&C President Michelle Campbell told News Ltd she was 'disappointed' in the kids' behaviour. "It was complete chaos," she said. "But kids will be kids". The PM didn't seem to mind, tweeting several photos of herself interacting with the students, without a flying sandwich in sight. Ms Gillard was at the school with Trade Minister Craig Emerson for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea for cancer research and patient support.
